Design a poster (hand-drawing/painting) to demonstrate your childhood.

Vietnamese culture: Design a "pick-up" tray

After the fabulous lesson we had in class about "thôi nôi" in Vietnamese Culture, your small task for this week is to draw/paint your own "pick-up" tray (A4).
Criterias for your drawing:
- 4-5 items to choose from
-A small explanation "What is a pick-up tray?" (you can possibly explain each items that you have on the tray.)
- Big, bold, colourful title
- Nice colouring (including the background)

Due date: Tuesday, 12th March.

Tet project assignment

As Tet is approaching, we are continuing with our "Tet book". For this week, your task will be similar to the last assignment, where you will draw a picture of one aspect of Tet and have a small research to go with it.

- Sanny : kitchen god
- Kimberley: visiting relatives
- Nhan Thu: tranh Đông Hồ (famous painting)
- Yuen Yin: Câu đối Têt
- Jessica: chợ Tết ( Tet market)
- Jinny: year of the snake
- Quoc Linh: watermelon

The rest of the class will product a painting about Tet. Think of it as a front cover page, you can include many items, views of Tet. For the front cover, you don't need to have research to go with it, but I'll be expecting a more details and better quality painting.

The assisgnment is due next Monday, 4th January.

Tet assignment

Your assignment is to sketch an item which relates to Tet and colour. ( Don't forget to colour the background as well!!) Some items that you can draw such as:
- Lucky money pocket
- Dragon/lion dance
- Rice cake
- Food eaten during Tet holiday
- Sweets (mứt , melon seeds...)
- Fire cracker
- Fruits ( a dish with 5 types of fruits)
- Traditional clothes
- Firework
- Flower

Also, there should be a small paragraph regarding the items.

Zodiac Animals

 

For a long time there has been a special relationship between humans and the 12 zodiacal animals. It is believed that the years represented by the animals affect the characters of people who were born on that year. This is the order of the animals ( some zodiac animals change according to different culture): rat, ox, tiger, cat, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog and pig.

Your Vietnamese culture homework for this week is to research about one animals and post it as a comment for this blog entry. There are also the 4 mythical creatures that you can do your research on : dragon, Chinese unicorn, turtle and phoenix.
 

Oliver Audition!!

Started the day with an audition for next term production "Oliver Twist", MP3 children showed that they have great potential for both acting and singing. MP3 teachers possibly will have a hard time choosing main characters. :)
Well done to all children who took part in the audition!

Earthquake at TX

Monday started as calmly and gently as any other Mondays. Until....an announcement exploded that TX was being hit by an earthquake. Children frantically scrambled under tables and tried to protect themselves.
The earthquake ended with everyone still safe and sound. Thanks to the Y4 earthquake "experts", who came to our class last week and intructed us what to do during an earthquake. :)

 

Twins research

"Family structure and relationship" is our topic for this week Vietnamese Culture lesson. During the lesson, children explored the relationship between parents & children and between siblings. There was great discussion on the pros and cons of being the oldest, youngest and the only child.
At the end of the discussion, we crossed the perspectives on twins. Do twins have different ideas, different experiences on the matters?
To help us to have a better idea on twins, Vietnamese Culture homework for this week is: " to search for an interesting fact regarding twins and comment on this post." Your comment can be facts, example, case studies...

CAT testing

This week, children are taking CAT test, which stands for "Cognitive Ability Test". These test are designed to find out how good one is at reasoning, being able to think things through. Children do not need to have any preparation since they don't need to learn any facts. These tests will help us to identify strengths, weaknesses and one learning preferences.

Christmas Box Decorations !!!

 A special Christmas event is waiting for children to join at TX! 

 Each child is being asked to decorate a small box with a Christmas theme.  It can then be filled a range of items.  We will then collect the boxes together, to be entered into a special Christmas raffle.  There will be a prize for the best home-made box per Mile Post. 

Ideas for decorating boxes

Any small box can be used from home and decorated using Christmas drawings, ribbon, fabric, paint, etc. It's an opportunitiy for children to show their creativity while doing something for our community.

Ideas for filling the box

-Stationary-pens, pencils, crayons                                            -Stickers

All money raised from the raffle will go to the TX Community projects and Community clubs.  If you have any questions, please come and see Ms Gurvinder in the F1 classroom.

Important dates

-Boxes can be handed in in the foyer week beginning Monday 3rd December for one week. For each box handed in a child can buy one raffle ticket. No Christmas box, no ticket! Children are very welcome to make more than one box. Each raffle ticket will cost 25,000 VND. It will help us if children bring in the exact amount of money.

-On Monday 10^thDecember between 7.30 and 7.55 am in the foyer children can come and exchange their raffle ticket for a Christmas box!

Only at TX

International Week assembly

International Week was ended with great performances from children from the whole school. There were dances and music from different countries. Parents and teachers were amazed and entertained by the children's talented shows.
6X did a small play "Race to the South Pole" and a funny, live Antarctica food web. The children had practiced hard for the assembly and we are so proud of them for making such great effort and put on great performance. Well done everyone!!!

International Buffet

Yesterday lunch was extra special since there were so much food from a variety of countries. As soon as one entered the canteen, the delicious smell of food drifted toward and promised an unforgetable lunch buffet. There were more than plenty of food for all staffs and children. It was spetacular to see children, staffs, and even children from PDV ate lunch together.
Much appriciation to those who contributed and supported.

International Fair

On Wednesday, school was lit up and filled with many craft activities and traditional games from different countries. It's great to see that children enjoyed themselves and were not afraid to try different crafts and games. It was such a wonderful day and children were provided with many experiences, thanks to parents and community, who worked together to set up such fantastic event.

 

In the foyer, there were crafts from Korea, dot painting from Australia, conical hat painting from Vietnam...and many more activities from India, Malaysia, New Zealand...

 

 

 

In the sport hall, there were games from Japan, South Korea, France and of course some games from Vietnam. Some were easy and fun, some were a bit more challenging; however, the children totally occupied and fully enjoyed their times. 

 

Making Pingu with F3

6X and Ms Helen's F3 had a fantastic time working together and created some awesome, unique Pingu. The work demanded children to use their communication skills to work with the smaller children. It was quite challenging at some time but the children managed well and had successfully created some beautiful Pingu masterpiece. The room was filled with happy laughter and radiant smiles. At the end, F3 children were more than excited to leave the room with their own Mr Pingu, leaving 6X children with a sense of happiness and accomplishment that they had succeeded in brighten up F3 children's day.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Vietnamese Culture International Week

 

 

As a special treat for International Week, children had to opportunity to visit the Vietnamese Room. Children were amazed and fascinated by all the items and fruits that were on display.There was a small version of a "Monkey bridge" made off bamboo. Most children were excited trying to keep their balance, walking across the bridge.

There were also different types of fruit, an armful of lotus, a minimised rice field, a countryside model of a "hen house"....and so much more for the children to explore and enjoy.   

 

 

International Week Flag Parade

There was so much excitement in the atmosphere as the children arrived school in various traditional costumes. It was amazing to see how colourful the playground had been transformed into!!
The flag parade in the sport hall was fabulous. Parents and teaching staff were charmed by the beautiful outfits and radiant smiles that the children put on.
