Vietnamese Culture International Week

As a special treat for International Week, children had to opportunity to visit the Vietnamese Room. Children were amazed and fascinated by all the items and fruits that were on display. There was a small version of a "Monkey bridge" made off bamboo. Most children were excited trying to keep their balance, walking across the bridge.
There were also different types of fruit, an armful of lotus, a minimised rice field, a countryside model of a "hen house"....and so much more for the children to explore and enjoy.

  3. As Nhan Thu and Sony was saying, I also liked the Monkey Bridge, however I also liked to see and sort of play with the rice, next to the chicken cage. When I put the rice on the bowl you were and shake it, it was quite fun.

  4. The most exciting part for me was the "Monkey Bridge" and the rice filtering. Walking on the monkey bridge is scary but somehow awesome! The rice filtering was also cool, we use weird baskets and fill it up with rice and then shake it.

    Vietnamese Culture rocks!

  12. My most favourite part is when we went to the Monkey bridge one by one. I have learnt a lot about Vietnam in this Week's lesson therefore, I found out that long time ago people used a basket with tiny holes to clean the rice. I also saw a dragon made by vegetables which is used for special events.

  15. I have learned alot today especially about what David B told me about the bamboo tree. He says that bamboo tree are usally found in the countryside and it gives you passion fruit and plum too. I also learned that in the olden times people usually used the monkey bridge to able to cross bridges. My most favourite subject was the bamboo tree, so I did a little reaserch about the bamboo tree ,and what I found was that the bamboo tree has been seen as a symbol of unity and love of the Vietnamese people.

  20. During Vietnamese Culture, I have learnt about the Monkey Bridge and the fruits in Vietnam. I noticed there were tiny holes in the baskets to hold clean rice and some for filtering. 22. In the Vietnamese decorated room, there was lots of wonderful things such as the bamboo tree, the banana tree, the lotus flowers, the hen house...
But my favourite part was when I got a turn to walk on the thin yet strong monkey bridge. I wasn't surprised because I tried it somewhere else before. Plus it didn't wobble much. Then it was time for us to learn some facts from Ms Duyen. She told to us something about where the room is set and what was the objects around the room. After a hour of exploring and learning, the Vietnamese session was over. I thought the session was very useful and interesting.

P.S. Even though the explore hour was very nice it didn't smell particularly pleasant!!!

  25. Well done to all of you who had done your homework :) You can each have 2 house points.
There would be additonal homework to 10 "special students" who didn't bother to do it.

  26. I loved going into the Vietnamese room and explore the unusual things( that we don't see in school every day), fruit, etc... But I like the trees in the corner of the room most, the lotus flower with the smooth pink petals, and I discovered that under the flowers is supposed to be a pond, or pool! I thought it was a garden with flowers in buckets! Even though the room was very exciting, it didn't smell very ...nice.

  27. During the Vietnamese Culture, i learnt alot about the monkey bridge. It was really interesting how the monkey bridge kept it balance with all the extremely heavy weight on it. However, I was most interested in the rice shaking because it was like a waterfall when we put lots of layers on it. Did you know that a fruit dragon takes 2 or 3 days to make ? Certainly i didn't know it. Over all , in Vietnamese culture I learnt lots about the Vietnamese life.

  28. I love learning Vietnamese to explore the amazing traditional things in Vietnam. Last Saturday Year 6 went into the Vietnamese room And I love seeing the bridge and i even went on internet to research about it. The bridge was made out of bamboo because in the old days vietnam does not a metal or cool things so they use the bamboo to make it and it is also very hard to walk on it to, many people had died or drowned. from Jason

  29. I should agree, that I really liked the Monkey bridge and I also like the scenery behind too, because the scenery was from the countryside, and it looks very peaceful.

There was a scenery that had a field in it, and, in fact, it was called Ruộng bậc thang in Vietnamese. The people have made these fields because there was lots of mountains in the countryside and not really enough plain land to grow crops, so they made the mountains flat down to grow the wheat on top.

  31. I have to say, I enjoyed doing the Monkey Bridge because they were very fun to try. It is amazing how it can hold such heavy weights!

There was a back-drop that had a mountain on it, and it is called Ruộng bậc thang in Vietnamese which means 'Terraced fields'. The villagers have made these fields because there are lots of mountains in the countryside and not enough flat land to grow crops on, so they re-made the mountains to have layers so they could grow their crops ontop.

  32. The Bamboo Tree:

The Bamboo tree is a symbol of love for the vietnaemse people. The Bamboo tree is also a type of grass. It grows in Asia, South America and Africa. It has about 500 different varieties. It grows 41cm a day! In Japan, gardeners use hollowed bamboo stems as water pipes and in China, the inner pulp is used to make paper.
