Brainstorming "Your 1st birthday"

To prepare for our next lesson in Vietnamese Culture, you're set a small task to do this week.
Your task is to find out how did your parents celebrating your 1st birthday (it could be your sister/brother if parents can't remember back to yours).
You can post your comments in this blog so we can share ideas together :)

  1. When I was 1 years old, my first birthday was celebrated at a restaurant, my mum and dad invited their friends to join too! It was fun even though I was too young to understand. My mum invited a clown, she put on lots of activities for everyone (especially for kids) to enjoy the party. And a MC to explain how to play the game and so on. Also they ordered a gigantic first birthday cake for me. The guest gave me presents... That was it for my first birthday party! My mum and dad doesn't like complicated parties so that is how they planned it.

  5. When I was 1 years old, I was living in Ho Chi Minh City. My parents and I celebrated a small family party and gave ,e a teddy bear. However in Japan, they celebrate a more important one; when a child has been born for 100 days, most Japanese families celebrate a celebration called Issho mochi.

Issho mochi is an event which is 'Issho..' meaning 1.8 kg of rice cake is taken by children at his/her 1 years old birthday because 'Issho' has also a meaning of 'whole life'
This celebration is for the baby's good health and abundance. The baby gets dressed up in a tiny kimono and the family members prepare a huge meal.
When my grandma put the rice cake on a bowl, my mum held me so that I could stamp on it, although I just looked at my grandma and did particularly nothing.

  12. I was a really little person when I was one years old.On the day 22 of febuary 2003 it was my very first birthday. My parents made a little party in the evening,at a Thai restaurant near where i'm living now. They invited lots of their friends.Juliet(who learned in TX campus in year 4)was there as well. There were lots of balloons so I can touch. Also there was children's songs.I was carried most of the time because I was only just learning to walk. But on some occasions I had a little waddle!I don't really remember all of this but my mum took a video so I've seen it.Then it time to eat!I sat on a baby's high chair and banged my spoon and fork on the table.I had a big and high birthday cake which was pink I think.I loved my first birthday. It was great even though I've seen it on the video not it reality.

  13. My first birthday kind of combined with the traditional Taiwanese way of celebrating which is to buy the baby new, beautiful things like hat, clothes, shoes... and to give everyone - that my parents invited- a boiled egg. However, my parents also bought a birthday cake for me and the part that I liked most was the fact that there was a picture of me on the cake that is made out of cream and can be eaten. By parents also told me that I did not only munch the cake up happily but I also used my finger to whip the cream up.Such fascinating fact!

  15. Most people in Korea celebrate their first birthday in a restaurant. They eat and talk and later the baby goes in the front, sits on the table and picks one of the objects, this is called 'Doljabee'. Which Korean people believe that they will be like that.(what the object represents what)Now here are the things that what represents what...

-Wool: The child will live long
-Book, pencil, or related items: The child will become a successful scholar
-Money: The child will become rich
-Microphone-The child will will become a very good singer
-Stethoscope-The child will become a very good doctor/nurse...

Then after the baby had picked up an object some relatives will hang a wool around the babies neck. They hang it because, if the baby didn't pick the wool and picked something else the baby (who's first birthday was on that day) will also live long.

    P.S: I picked up a pencil :):)

  18. On my first birthday, my dad invited his 2 best friends and their families to my house. My mom however invited most of her friends. My cousins, aunties, uncles, grandparents, and neighbors were all there. I know it was so awful crowded but i had so much fun and enjoyed bouncing up and down (my dad said i was trying to dance but it actually looked like i was bouncing up and down)!!!

I ate a small piece of cake (about a size of a computer mouse). Then came the presents, they were bags of diapers, clothes, toys, teddies, shoes, and more... That was the most funniest birthday in my life although i didn't remember any of this. (my dad told me all of these crazy events)!
